Third Annual KidWind Challenge

Local Students Shine at 3rd Annual KidWind Challenge

Students from across the region put their renewable energy knowledge to the test at the 3rd Annual KidWind Challenge, where teams competed to design and build the most efficient wind turbines. This year’s event showcased impressive innovation, teamwork, and engineering skills from elementary, middle, and high school teams, all aiming for top honors and a chance to advance to the next level of competition.

And the Winners Are...

🏆 Elementary Division: Coconut Ice Cream, Mason Daniels, from Coolidge Unified School District, impressed the judges with their innovative blade design and strong teamwork. Following close were second place team Jade Leaves, Kathryn Exley and Eloise Memmott and third place team Gyarados, Charles Sterling and Jayden Lyons, also from Coolidge Unified School District.

🏆 Middle School Division: AIrbenders, Harjot Bassin, Paige Reynolds, and Cayden George from Florence Unified School District took home first place with their efficient turbine model, showcasing outstanding research and engineering skills. Second place winners in this division were the Windbros, Hunter Henry, Roman Neal, and Leonidas Bingochea and third place The Electrons, Luke, Gavin Bladt, Benjamin Wilkinson, and Darrin Johnson and Luke Ramirez, both teams also from Florence Unified.

🏆 High School Division: Team Gravestone, Lyric Brown, Tina Thai and Lily Venator from Poston Butte High School in Florence, claimed the top spot, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and design expertise. Also coming from Poston Butte was the second-place winning team, Team Bubbles, Malachi Worley, Leigha Rhoden and Shaelan Siegel.

Each of these winning teams has earned an invitation to compete at the prestigious KidWind World Challenge, which will be held right here in Arizona later this year! This exciting opportunity will allow students to showcase their talents on a national stage and compete against top teams from across the country.

These young engineers demonstrated a deep understanding of wind energy principles and the power of collaboration. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work, creativity, and commitment to renewable energy innovation!

A Special thanks to our sponsers, Orsted and Kidwind. And a special thanks to Mary C O'brien for allowing us to use their campus.

Stay tuned as our winning teams prepare to represent our community at the KidWind World Challenge, which will be held in May in Phoenix Arizona this year.
